Central to our life as a community is our corporate worship—an expression of our common thanksgiving and praise to God. Sunday services and weekday services at Calvary combine the best of our Episcopal tradition and joyful celebration. Worship, whether corporate or personal, ornate or simple, reminds us that we can experience God in many different ways.

Music plays an important role in worship. The beauty, innovation, and tradition of Calvary's music program encourages the participation of both children and adults, and is enriched by the magnificent Aeolian-Skinner organ.

Sunday Worship Services

7:30 am  Community Breakfast Blessing

Year-round, Calvary volunteers prepare and serve a hot breakfast to approximately 150 homeless persons in our community. A member of our Clergy team leads everyone in prayer before the breakfast.

7:45 am  Holy Eucharist & Homily, Rite I

This service features the more traditional "Elizabethan" language of The Book of Common Prayer to create a quiet and intimate service. This service ends before 8:30 a.m. and many of the early morning worshipers gather for the parish breakfast which follows in the Mural Room.

9:00 am  Holy Eucharist & Sermon, Rite II (Children's Chapel)

Using the more contemporary language of The Book of Common Prayer, this service attracts a congregation that includes many families with young children. The liturgy is an upbeat celebration of the Eucharist, with sermons designed to acknowledge the presence of our children in some way. During the Processional Hymn, children age 3 through 1st grade are invited to follow the cross from the church to Room 203 for Children's Chapel, a special version of the Liturgy of the Word. Children are escorted back into church in time to join their families for the passing of the Peace and Holy Communion. The Summer Choir leads the congregation in a mixture of traditional and contemporary music with occasional help from the Children’s Choir and the Calvary Ringers handbell choir. This service ends promptly at 11:00 a.m.

11:05 am  Prayers for Healing

For those desiring prayer in response to their own or someone else's need for healing (physical, spiritual, or personal), the laying-on-of-hands for healing is offered at the altar rail on Sunday mornings prior to the 11:15 a.m. service.

11:15 am Holy Eucharist & Sermon, Rite II

This service provides a more formal opportunity for worship by using the contemporary language of The Book of Common Prayer. The liturgy is enhanced by the glorious and traditional music of the Calvary Choir, a professional vocal ensemble, which offers major works, including mass settings, requiems, anthems, and motets. This service appeals to a widely-varied congregation, from young adults to octogenarians. After the service, worshipers gather in the Great Hall for coffee, tea, and conversation.

Weekday Worship Schedule

8:30 am–4:30 pm Church Open for Prayer

The Second Street doors are open Monday through Friday so that people may offer their personal prayers, or sit and be quiet for a moment in the pews.

8:30 am  Morning Prayer

Morning Prayer, a service which traces its origins to early monastic communities, is read by lay readers Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays in the church. The service includes Scripture readings and Psalms and an opportunity to offer one's personal prayers.

7:30 am Wednesday Morning Holy Eucharist & Homily, Rite II

Holy Eucharist is offered in the church every Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. Lessons each week follow a nearby saint’s day from the church’s worship calendar. Free parking is available in the Calvary lot at Adams and Third for this 30-minute service. Coffee is served afterward for those who want to stay and visit. If you've had to miss Sunday services in your spiritual home or are just looking for a chance to stay connected with your spiritual foundation during the week, please come and worship at Calvary on Wednesday mornings.

6:15 pm Wednesday Evening Worship

Integral to Koinonia, Calvary's Wednesday evening program of fellowship and education, is the brief worship service that is held in the Mural Room following dinner. The service incorporates lighting candles, singing chants and hymns, and reading Scripture and Psalms. More detailed information about this week’s worship schedule can be found on the church calendar.
